Alán Kralovánszky A 7TH CENTURY AVAR CEMETERY FROM HAJDUDOROG (preliminary report) On the eastern region of Hungary in the inner area of the settlement Haj dudorog - situataed between the towns Debrecen and Nyíregyháza a commun grave was found in 1955: an adoult buried together with a complete horse and possibly a child ( — grave "A"). Gilded silver buckle With face-representation and gilded silver rosette were saved from the grave. Some other objects came to surface during the control excavation in 1956 (fig 10. 7-15; pic 3.). The site could be located on the western side of a sandhill the diameter of which is cca 50 m. Beyond grave "A" 4 other graves were excavated (fig 1.). Grave no. 1. in situ adoult male with rich furniture by his right side a harnessed complete horse. The grave was dated with a golden solidus of Heraclius I. (610-613) then of secondary use (finds: fig 2-9; pic 1-2,4-6). Grave no.2. in situ female, (finds: fig 10.). Grave no.3. in aitu only 2 tibia, fibula + ossa pedis. Finds : traces of the wooden coffin, remains of a bronze plate. Grave no.4. disturbed adoult (finds: fig 10.). The presumed nuclear family cemetary was in use in use in the first third of 7th century. The finds are in the Déri Múzeum, Debrecen.
