A Debreceni Déri Múzeum Évkönyve 1986 (Debrecen, 1987)

A XVI–XVII. századi magyar pénzverés és nemesfémbányászat nemzetközi numizmatikai konferenci a Déri Múzeumban, 1985. október 26–27. - Jensen, Jorgen Steen: Transsylvanian Coins in Copenhagen

Jensen, Jörgen Steen Transsylvanián Coins in Copenhagen The symposium at the Déri Museum in Debrecen at October the 26th 1985 gave a wellcome opportunity to examine the Transsylvanián trays of the Royal Collection of Coins and Medals at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen. A summary inventory of the collection shows the holdings as follows Gold Silver 12 32 3 2 16. century 7 17. century 17 18. century 10 19. century 2 36 49 Eleven of the thalers were some years ago published in the Numizmatikai Közlöny 1 They are found in Danish hoards, deposited in the period from 1643 till 1672, a period which is unusually rich in hoards (mostly because of the wars against Sweden 1643-45, 1657-60, and 1675-79). Among the rest eight silver coins and seven gold coins stand out because of their provenance. These coins are mentioned in the manuscript catalogue of the Collection from 1793 2 . They have thus a provenance, which reaches back to the old "Kunstkammer" from the middle of the 17. century. Some of the coins actually may be traced back to this period. One or two of the silver coins are mentioned in the oldest inventory of the "Kunstkammer" from 1673 3 . The comparative rareness of the Transsylvanián coins in Danish hoards makes it rather unlikely that they are found here, one is rather tempted to suggest that they may have been selected because of their motives or —in some cases —because of their inscriptions, which may have made them attractive. Silver coins present in the Royal Collection 1793 1. John II Sigismund, emergency thaler 1565, Resch no. 50, 29.05 gr. (already in the Kunstkammer 1673 ?) 2.
