Művészettörténet - Sz. Bíró Katalin: Six Paintings from the Fine Arts Galery in Debrecen

' Katalin Bíró SIX PAINTINGS FROM THE FINE ARTS GALLERY IN DEBRECEN Analysing the works of six 20th century Hungarian painters: Czóbel Béla, Félegyházi László, Kling György, Kokas Ignác, Pál Gyula and Vecsési Sándor, who represent three generations in modern Hungarian painting, the author tries to find the connecting links and the differentiating moments between the works, the painters, the generations. As a result, she puts the question if expressionism as a painting style represented by all of these painters cannot be one of the main tendencies in 20th century painting, since' it seems to be the most adequate expression of the century's social forces, unbalanced feeling of life and individuality of artists seeking for their own way of thinking and expression and wishing to make themselves understood. 425
