M. Nepper Ibolya: Szkíta kori leletek a Déri Múzeumból (Adatközlés)
Representatives of the literature assume such an attack having taken place at the time when the lowland "group" of the Bodrogkeresztur culture, representing autochthonous development, was eradicated and the way of life of the carriers of this culture underwent a change. The present view is that the reason of this change was attack launched by the people of the Pécel (Baden) culture. We believe that the growth of the Bodrogkeresztur culture was interrupted by the invasion of the steppe people of the pit-grave ("kurgan") culture. Our hypothesis, supported by chronological and settlement-geographical arguments, has been forwarded in contradiction to the widespread view with the understanding that we leave the clarification of the problem to further results of studying the copper age, as this will serve as the sole objective standard to evaluate theories. Whatever the case be, by our present knowledge we explain the hiding of the treasure with the chaos resulting from an enemistic attack. 52
