Tanulmányok - Gazdapusztai Gyula: Réz- és középkori telep és temető Tégláson

One characteristic of the burial rite is a consistent west-east orientation of the dead, and the fact that bricks (at the head and the feet) and frames of bricks are very often used in the graves. Grave No. 24 is especially interesting in this respect, where a complete frame of brick seems to ha ve been used, which was destroyed later, when skeleton b) was buried there. (Figures 2 Table XI and XII.) In the majority of double burials, it can be shown that we are confronted here with the fact subsequent burials, and it is probably only grave No. 33 where a double burial had actually taken place. The ritual of grave No. 36 is in sharp contrast with the rest, as the skeleton here had been placed in the grave with brick furniture in a position reminding of sitting. It would seem doubtless that the opening up of the site at Téglás has enriched our knowledge of the Axpadian settlements around Debrecen with some additional facts, and that an analysis of burial rites might contribute to understand the nature of the mediaeval beliefs. 125
