MARCSIK ANTÓNIA KISALFÖLDI KORA AVAR KORI TEMETKEZÉSEK EMBERTANI... Anthropological analyses of the early Avar Age BURIALS OF THE KISALFÖLD REGION The present study aims at analysing the anthropological material of four bigger (Gyór-Pápa vám, Börcs-Nagydomb, Dör-Zálogos-sziget and Bogyoszló-Külső mezők) and four smaller (Börcs-Paphomlok, Gyirmót-Borsódűlő, Mosonszentmiklós-Pál major, Ménfócsanak-Savanyító) burial sites from the early Avar Age (the last third of the 6th century - second third of the 7th century). The osteoarchaeological tests of the bone remains of 27 individuals were carried out by the classical anthropological method (the sex, age. age group, metric-morphologic charecteristics and the identication of the Europid and Mongolid greater groups, furthermore of the different smaller taxonomic types). In addition to the general anthropological characteristics the paper puts emphasis onto the paleopathological analyses with special respect to the osteoarthritis and the traumatic, metabolic and/or haematogen and infectious conditions. The paleopathological analyses include the study of the teeth as well (caries, cysts, abscesses, development disorders). The study also takes into consideration the effects of hard work and the way of life to the bones (enthesopathic conditions) and presents a comparative study of the above-mentioned burials and their relation to the series of Early Avar Age of the Trans-Tisza (especially of the Maros River) Region.
