ARRABONA 2012. 50/2. TANULMÁNYOK THE HISTORY OF THE NOBLE KÁLÓCZY FAMILY FROM GYŐR The study presents several members of the family Kálózy/Kálóczy, who played their part in the history of Győr. The ancestor of the family, György Kálozy came from a village called Kálóz situated in Fejér County. He was granted nobility for his military services in 1610 (Fig. 1.). By the 18th century, his successors already lived in Győr County, where they ran small farms as nobles, but one of them, Mihály Kálóczy became a rich fishmonger in Győr. The widow of one of his sons, Mihály (1741-1786) founded the poorhouse of Révfalu and named it after his husband. One of his grandsons’ called also Mihály (1782-1855) became a local notability as a clerk of the county (Fig. 2.). His son, Lajos (1819-1898), the most famous member of the family, became a liberal politician (Fig. 3.). He was elected member of the Parliament three times and played a prominent role in the debates about Hungary’s relation to Austria of the 1861 parliament session. László Tóth
