The data of this paper have been selected from the ethnographic sound records of the which were recorded between 1961 and 1975. The majority of the early records, which were recorded on magnetic tape, were made by Németh Imre who started to work for the museum in 1965 first as an assistant museologist and from 1966 as an ethnographer. Together with Timaffy László and Barsi Ernő he recorded important folklore material on magnetic tape from already 1965. At this time the museum also launched series of ethnographic expeditions that lasted for several years, the participants of which also contributed to the enlargement of the sound record collection of the museum. Unfortunately, these enthusiastic amateur collectors only rarely documented their recordings properly, and in such cases the location, the performer and the collector can not be identified.
