ARRABONA 2010.48/1. TANULMÁNYOK THE CULTURAL EFFECTS OF A LOCAL FOLK BALLAD RESEARCH I have been studying the relationship between the reality and the traditional folklore texts for more than a decade. I wrote my monograph of A vérző liliom. Defy Móri balladája a néphagyomány és költészet tükrében (The Bleeding Lilly. The Ballad of Defy Móri in the Mirror of the Folk Tradition and Poetry) based on archival, journalistic and folkloristic sources which came out together with Gliilch Csaba’s monodrama inspired by this ballad (Győr, 2003). In this book I compared the real story of an actual murder with the ballad variations and true stories of the same murder as they appeared in the oral tradition of Felpéc village (Sokoróalja Region) at the time of my recent folklore research (1996) and I also discuss the geographical area of its circulation. In this paper for the honour of Barsi Ernő’s 90th birthday I discuss the after life of this ballad research and the new data having been found since the publication of the book. My aim is to highlight the inspiring effect of the results of this ballad research for new artistic works of different genres (monodrama, poem, photo exhibition, film) and cultural events (lectures, book-presentations, writer-reader meetings, theatrical performances). This paper is at the same time a personal report of the psychological background of this research and its spiritual benefits. It is also a tribute to my master who not only inspired my career as an ethnographer but also called my attention to the beauty of the ballads. Zsuzsanna Lanczendorfer
