TANULMÁNYOK A WOMAN WITH TWO FACES (REMARKS TO THE PORTRAIT OF COUNTESS CSÁKY VALBURGA THE WIFE OF COUNT ANDRÁSSY JÓZSEF) The portrait of Countess Csáky Valburga the wife of Count Andrássy József belonging to the gallery of ancestors of the Counts Cziráky was restored at the Restorer Training Institute of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2006 by Feketics Erika under the guidance of Görbe Katalin. During the restoration an earlier portrait depicting also a noble woman was discovered which challenged both the dating and the identity of the portrayed persons. The Andrássy-Csáky dual coat of arms identifying the model of the painting belonged to the first portrait which thus clearly depicts Csáky Valburga and it might have been painted in the early 1790s. In the course of the repainting the coat of arms remained untouched which indicates that the figure to be seen today is also Csáky Valburga. This second layer was made around 1795 and it was painted based on a portrait depicting the Countess with her 2 year-old son. ZWEI GESICHTER EINER FRAU (ANMERKUNGEN ZUM BILDNIS VON VALBURGA CSÁKY, FRAU ANDRÁSSY JÓZSEFNÉ) Die Restaurierung des aus der Ahnengalerie der Grafen Cziráky stammenden Bildnis von Valburga Csáky, Frau Andrássy Józsefné, ist 2006 im Restauratoreninstitut der Ungarischen Kunstakademie erfolgt: Der Aufgabe nahm sich Erika Feketics an, unter der Betreuung von Katalin Görbe. Unter dem Porträt kam im Zuge der Restaurierung ein früheres Bildnis einer vornehmen Dame zum Vorschein. Diese Entdeckung machte sowohl die Datierung als auch die Identität der abgebildeten Persönlichkeiten fraglich. Das Modell des Bildnisses identifizierendes Andrássy-Csáky-Doppelwappen gehörte zum ersten Porträt, somit ist es eindeutig das Bildnis von Valburga Csáky, gemalt Anfang der 1790-er Jahre. Das Wappen blieb während der Übermalung unangetastet, so ist die heute zu sehende Person auch Valburga Csáky. Diese zweite Schicht wurde nach einem sie zusammen mit ihrem zwei- jährigen Sohn zeigenden Portrait um 1795 gemalt. 410
