Közi. = Archeológiai Közlemények Imre Enzsöl: Dr. Sőtér Ágoston (1837-1905) Ágoston Sotér of an intellectual family of nobility holding offices started his career in the service of Moson County, and before long he worked as a lawyer of public and commercial affairs in Magyaróvár (present-day Mosonmagyaróvár). He acted as the president of the Association of History and Archaeology in Moson County, which was formed in 1882. He gained significant distinction in the fields of organising and enriching the independent archaeological collection of the county. His interest within the association was engaged by archaeology, and he became the first archaeologist in the county who worked within an official framework. In 20 years his excavations discovered a rich collection of relics within the integrated territory of the county. Most of these sites of discovery can be found in Austria and Slovakia today. His series of excavations cover almost all periods of archaeology but most of his findings come from the period of the great migrations. In 1897 he discovered a civilisation of the Bronze Age near the village of Gâta (Gattendorf), which was unknown until then, and which is also called the civilisation of Moson (Wieselburger) after the name of the county. He conducted his excavations on the standard of contemporary archaeology, and he published his results. He edited the compendium entitled The Memorial Volume of the Association of the Association of History and Archaeology in Moson County 1882-1898 ("A Mosonymegyei Történelmi és Régészeti Egylet Emlékkönyve 1882-1898."), which demonstrated the achievements of the association and devoted a special section to the presentation of the details of the archaeological excavations. He kept on publishing his results in the scholarly journals of Hungary. We are indebted to him for the decision of 1904 due to which the Museum of Moson County was erected but whose completion he did not live to see.
