Szalontay Judit: 30 Years of the Museum of Csorna The Museum of Csorna has been situated in the north wing of the Premonstratensian Monastery in the most beautiful historic building of the town since the foundation 1969. After the attempt to found a museum from 1947, the actual, methodical collection started in 1969. The aim of the collection was to establish a public collection seated in Csorna for the archaic, ethnographic area of Rábaköz as soon as possible. Then, Dávid Lajos, county director of a museum (1926-1993) relocated Szalontay Judit, museologist from Győr to Csorna and assigned her with muséologie tasks. In the first decade of the foundation of the museum (1969-1979) we were trying to search and collect the historical and ethnographic base material. This was the time when the collection was enriched with the objects of the popular craftsmanship of the Rábaköz in the 19th century: potters ' tools and objects of Csorna and Dör, carved works of the shepherds of Rábaköz, hemp works, hand-woven materials, beautiful costumes of the popular clothes of Csorna and bride's kerchiefs with golden thread. Later peasant tailors', hatters', dyers' in blue and bookmakers' objects from the 19th century were purchased for the museum. In the second decade between 1979-1989 we were trying to process the collection from professional point of view, furthermore to establish photograph collections, a documentation department and library for professional literature. 1990 - date of the new permanent exhibition and inauguration of the museum. The permanent historical-ethnographic exhibition - Centuries of the urban and popular culture in Rábaköz and exhibition: " Fairs and Crafts of Csorna" were opened at that time. It summarises historical-ethnographic researches of the last two decades and demonstrates the values of the collection. On the first floor of the museum wing of the monastery, the ceremonial room with painted, coffered ceiling of the former Premonstratensian library and cartulary can be seen.
