DR.JENŐCZIGÁNY: Trephined Skull from Grave 44 in Lébény-Kaszásdomb The author gives a short account of the historic significance of the cultic and therapeutic function of trephination. The trephined female skull from the age of the Hungarian conquest from Grave 44 in Lébény-Kaszásdülő is described in details. On the basis of the deformation on the bone-edge of the trephined hole and the skull's X-ray photograph, the author reaches a conclusion of paleo-pathology that trephination could be performed with a therapeutic purpose, and that the patient could survive the trepanation only for a short time. 57
