ARRABONA 37.1999. TANULMÁNYOK - KÖZLEMÉNYEK The hitherto suggested route of the limes has been supported by the latest place surveys made eastwards from Győr as well as aerial photographs and place surveys of the section between Abda and Öttevény. The research is enriched by excavated road sections on the areas of the vicus and the Arrabona camp (Szőnyi, 1981a, 1992) More results were found in the case of the Brigetio-Sa

varia route but the reseach was kept within the borders of Arrabona county. On the borders of Ménfőcsanak, at the 34 milestone from Brigetio a nearly 500-metre section was opened up eastwards from the Rába river. Three milestones were found at a main Southeastbound junction (maybe leading to Sopiane). The findings add interesting data to the traditions of milestone putting up. The three milestones are clearly signed to be from the 3

r century, the times of Macrinus, Eagabalus and Philippus emperors (Szőnyi 1996, 1996a). Interesting observations were also made in the next section of the road, the area of Mursella municipium (Szőnyi 1981,1992a). This road could be followed up to the border of Sobor-Rábaszentandrás based on the assistance of place surveys and on a milestone containing a datum measured from Savaria(plate9.). 90
