Jahrhundert In der Arbeit wird kurz der Begriff des gesellschaftlichen Vereins geklärt: Was versteht der Autor darunter und aufgrund seiner Auffassung bestimmt er den zur Untersuchung herangezogenen Kreis der Vereine innerhalb der zivil-gesellschaftlichen Vereine. Er stellt den Hergang und Zeitfolge der Vereinsgründungen in der Epoche der Herausbildung der kapitalistischen Gesellschaftsordnung in Ungarn, also in der Reformzeit und dann zu Ende des Jahrhunderts nach dem Ausgleich dar. Er macht offensichtlich, daß für das Anwachsen der Anzahl der Vereine nicht nur die Veränderungen von rechtlichen Möglichkeiten und Verhältnissen, sondern sowohl bei der Vermehrung der Vereine als auch bei den Rechtsveränderungen auch die bürgerlichen Entwicklungs linien und deren Ergebnisse in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft bestimmend waren. In der Arbeit wird für bis in die Gegenwart hinein für geltend erachtet, daß Vereine verschiedentliche Ansprüche und Bedürfnisse der Gesellschaft überhaupt und hauptsächlich der von kleineren Gruppen erfüllt, nämlich solche, zu deren Erfüllung der Staatsapparat nicht fähig und nicht bereit ist, wodurch die Arbeit der Vereine als Ganzheit die gegebene Ordnung im nationalen Maße vervollständigt, die Lebensqualität sowie politische und gesellschaftliche Aktivität von Bürgern und einzelnen Gruppen verbessert. ATTILA KÖRNYEI: th About Historical Associations in the 19 Century This study defines "social association", in other words, what the author means by that. He limits the list of the examined associations to the social civil ones. It is demonstrated how and in what pace these associations were established in the "Reform era" and in the last decades of the 19 century after the Compromise of 1867. The development of economy and society of a bourgeis tendency and its results decisively effected the increase of associations, their financial accumulation as well as the change in their law. These associations came up to the needs of the whole society, especially of the minor classes, and according to the author, this fact has been valid up to the present time. Their needs could not be satisfied by the state organization, therefore, the work of the examined associations brought the system closer to perfection in a national scale, and it improved the standard of living as well as the political activity. These associations are considered to have been effective, hitherto, in meeting various demands mainly of the minor social groups but also of the whole society. Such demands could not be fulfilled by the state organization. Therefore, the standard of living, the social and political activity of certain groups were improved by the operation of the associations discussed in this essay, in addition they brought the given system closer to perfection on a national scale. 214
