Tury Mária: Festmények restaurálása a Xántus János Múzeumban

On the restoration of the pictures belonging to the estate of the late Dr. Petz Aladár, hospital head-doctor The article describes an important part of the picture-restoring work carried out in Xántus János Museum, namely the restoration of the Petz-coUection bestowed upon the Museum. In respect to the history of restoration, the Petz-collection is extremely interesting because around the turn of the century the pictures had been restored to a uniformly high level. Consequently, they bear the evidence of the restoring methods of the past century. The canvas stretchers, the way of doubling (the use of size) and the refined way of restoration are all the manifestations of the quality-centered approach that is typical of the restorers of that age. During the past 90 years the materials applied have grown old and accordingly, the pictures need conservation and restoration. The article describes the conservation and restoration of three pictures: - An old scholar - portrait; signature and date 'Elias Mögel pinxit 1774' have been revealed during cleaning. - Unknown Austrian Master: The portrait of PETZ Miksa - early 19th century. The picture was displayed in an exhibition in Győr, in 1903. - Unknown German Painter: Junketers - 18th century. Also displayed in 1903. This is the first publication about the restoration work started recently in the Xántus János Museum. The author is a picturerestorer who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sofia and Budapest, and graduated in 1982. Ever since she has been working as a picture-restorer craftswoman. She is a member of the Society of Hungarian Artists and the Chamber of Hungarian Restorers. It is the author's intention to regularly inform the general public about the restoration work within the Museum. Mária Tury 462
