are considerably rare. A lot of melodies were formed by the effect of the Georgian melo­dies used in the Catholic liturgy. Among them some distorted Latin melodies can often be found, too. The Nativity Plays of Csallóköz probably used to contain pastorals, too. This supposition seems to be supported by the melodies that have no religious elements in their texts and are of a strophical structure that bears a close resemblance to our folk-songs with swineherd-dance rhythm. The ancient pagan memories of the winter solstice and the remnants of the ecclesias­tical mystery play can be found in the clothes and props of the nativity players. Tibor Ág
