Enyzöl Imre: A Hansági Múzeum céhpecsétjei

The Guild Seals at Mosonmagyaróvár The guild seals are important sources of information in relation to the craftsman's or artisan's life during the feudal era. The shape, illustration and text bear valuable information whichh distinguishes different periods of usage. The present study deals with 16th-19th century pieces from the collection on display in the Hansági Museum of Mosonmagyaróvár. Most of these were found in the territory of Moson County which is the only county with a German majority in Great-Hungary i.e. Hungary before the date of the Trianon Treaty. The large number of inschriptions in German indicates that a considerable number of these craftsmen belonged to the German ethnic group. Interesting particulars relating to linguistic history are also to be found. A few nicely engraved heraldic pieces, presumably fashioned by Viennese and Pozsony masters, add to the value of the collection. Moreover, there are two seals originating from the territory presently named Burgenland. Both these seals were made in 1801 upon the order of the stonecutting and bricklaying company of Heiligenkreuzersteinbruch, which is now named Kaisersteinbruch. Imre Enzsöl 223
