Timaffy László köszöntése
Dr. Timaffy was prevented from participating in the professional discussions (between the mid-fifties until the midsixties) on thee new methodological orientation of Hungarian ethnography. Nevertheless he was able to develop his geographical orientation and to display its values with brilliance, but he also endeavored at enriching his methods with a historical aspect, as well as adapting the liteerary, musical and religious-historical inspirations of Hungarian folklore research. The research work of Dr. Timaffy has been naturally completed by his educational activity; he has been a most successful teacher of pupils, adults and the public at large. Thousands of young people got stimuli for appreciating the values and traditions of the past and to support the work of museums. He taught the members of his village choirs, tradition-cultivating circles, and his occasional audience to these noble aims. His personal contribution greatly helped the museums of this region in fulfilling their mission. This volume contains most of the papers read at a two-days conference in Octobre 1991. We want to greet Dr. László Timaffy with this volume expressing him the esteem and respect of all those ethnographers, folklorists and historians who cherish their interest in human landscape.
