What is Hidden in the Ground Under the ‘Hotel Magyar Király’?

The building was originally a post office, later home of the Schmidegg family, Zichy Palace, Magyar Király Szálló (meaning: Hungarian King Hotel) and Venice Hotel, until it was renamed Magyar Király Szálló. It is nowadays one of the most prominent buildings of Székesfehérvár. However, former monuments which once stood there are also important, as the hotel is located in the centre of the most significant and most extensive suburb of Medieval Fehérvár (named Budai suburb). The paper studies this area, and lists both written and archaeological sources about the past of this neighbourhood. This oudook presents the history of the area from the Middle Ages to modern times.
