Thus the ecclesia baptismalis may also have been a quasi capella regia, which would explain why his son, King István (997—1038 A. D.), founded the „propriam capellam" at Fehérvár (Hartvic IX, 28). Gy. G y ö r f f у adopted D. Dercsényi's suggestion, made during a local field survey in 1971, where he assumed that the church under study was built following an order of King István who intended to have a sepulchral chapel constructed for his father (1977, 102). The historical data and reasoning explained above do not confirm Györffy's hypothesis which states that „the central group (i. e. the Feldebrő, Tarnaszentmária with central structure and their equivalent from Fehérvár) could have resulted from Greek connections and pilgrimages to Jerusalem which occurred during the reign of King István. During visits to the East, the pilgrims became familiar with churces having this central structure. Among these churches was the main cultic place in the Jerusalem Holy Sepulchre Church as well. Thus, art history may well illustrate the turning point in the prime of István's life." (1977, 350).
