kesfehérvár were always most attractive for craftsmen and merchants of the capital and the towns nearby, as well as for the farmers and major corn—producers of the surroundings, but also for hired shepherds and farm hands. In that period Székesfehérvár detained for a more or less long-lasting stay the scholars of the region (the schools see on Fig. 10., 174— 189.), the soldiers joining here their regiments (Fig. 107., 149-155.), the patients in the hospitals (Fig. 142—146. ) and the itinerant journeymen. The selection of photos ends with some subject-pictures (Fig. 216— 232.). The preparations for the reception of lùng Francis Joseph at the railway station (Fig. 217. ) get on very well together with the participants of the unveiling of a monument (Fig. 219., 222-223.), and the group photograph of singing circles with that of the war veterans of 1848 (Fig. 225. ). It was not our ambition to write a monograph nor did we strain after completeness in the publication of the photos. All we would like to do is to send a picture card to the spectators of these days, just to show them what Székesfehérvár was like some fifty or hundred years ago. ZSÓFIA DEMETER -FERENC GELENCSÉR 218
