Néprajz–Etnológia - Markos Gyöngyi: A kecskési művelődési ház (Szeged) 75 éve (1939–2014)

MARKOS GYÖNGYI a Kecskési Művelődési Ház (Szeged) 75 éve 75 years of the Kecskés Cultural Center (Szeged) (1939-2014) The István Kecskés suburb is the southern part of Szeged and it lies on two sides of Szabadkai road. Its cultural centre is the smallest autonomous community educational institute of the city, at the same time it is one of the few cultural institutions that have been built as a cultural centre and have retained their original function until today. After the First World War it was built as an area for those wounded in the war, in a part of the city where István Kecskés was active in organizing such places. In the part of the city named after Kecskés the Civic Circle Culture House was built in 1939, after the Elementary School (1928) and the kindergarten. Rich library, newspaper and magazine collection was available to visitors. After the abolition of civil organizations, such as the Civil Circle, in 1949 the cultural house was nationalized. After the Second World War, the population of the settlement expanded because workers' homes were built. The name of the district was changed to Endre Ság- vári, the cultural house was renamed to Endre Ságvári Cultural Home. Only in 1992 did our district get back the name: Kecskés István. I present the creation of the cultural house, the new organizational framework, and the post-regime changes in the study. A separate chapter deals with the role of the cultural centre in the city’s public education system in the era of socialism, and I also present the activities of decisive smaller sections [from 1950 to 1975: way-seeking, 1973-93 the changes, present days) with the help of contemporary documents, newspaper articles and recollections. 476
