Gerencsér Judit: Makovecz Imre Makón. Ami Barcelonának Gaudí, az Makónak Makovecz

GERENCSÉR JUDIT Makovecz Imre Makón - Ami Barcelonának Gaudí, az Makónak Makovecz Buildings by Imre Makovecz in Makó The relationship between Makó and Imre Makovecz started in the 1990s. His first local building was the so-called Onion House, which - in the words of Imre Makovecz "re-opens the gates of European intellectual life [...] I tried to develop lively interior spaces, and the external shape of the building itself is, so to speak: alive - so it is not rectangular, is not made of tin or iron, glass or plastic [...] There is no specific interior design, but the building itself is a living world that does not tolerate symbols, because it means life itself.” From this relationship further works of art were born, such as the Hagymatikum Bath complex, a school, a nursery, a music pavilion.... The art of Imre Makovecz has become a determinative factor of the town’s image. The study takes us on a trip around his buildings in Makó. 77
