The Herdsmen generations exhibition and its after-life in the Attila József Museum The study is about an exhibition of the Makó Museum on the life of herdsmen and their family traditions across generations in the Southern Plainland of Hungary. The author describes the herdsmen's work, traditional costumes, tools, decorative art. He interviews two contemporary shepherds as heirs of a traditional culture. Many aspects of this culture, such as the herdsmen's family lineage, husbandry, subsistence strategies, and changes of breed preference have been neglected in ethnographic research. The author argues that these topics, together with herdsmen’s visual art, costume and practical knowledge are highly important themes for further research. 127
