A Móra Ferenc Múzeum Évkönyve: Studia Naturalia 5. (Szeged, 2009)

Summary

About the value of planted forests Jt is a determining factor that hawthorn-like shrubs and planted grey poplars are the closest to the Kiskunság sand ridge's (potential) natural tree vegetation. This will explain that "the forests left alone" are rich treasuries of animal and plant species which come from outside of the region and have a unique protection (see in Andrési 2000, 2001, Bodrogközy 1957, 1974, Csongor 1981, 1992, Csizmazia 1979, Kovács 1992, Magyar 1970, 1973, 1980, Margóczi 1991). Without these planted grey poplars most of the wild-orchids - considered to be the true features of Southern Kiskunság forest -, like Cephalanthera rubra, Epipactis atrorubens, Epipacis helleborine, Epipactis atrorubens borbasii and maybe Epipactis bugacensis would be missing from this landscape. If the mounds of sand were not destroyed during the preparation of soil a tour there would be a wonderful experience. This is true about visiting an older, untouched stand (for example Kiss Ferenc Memorial Forest in Asotthalom). About the "wondermeadows" in the neighborhood of Kőrös-ér In the area of the former Szeged-Alsótanya many places can be found which could be called "wondermeadow". However, this name refers to Asotthalom meadow, which is a nature reserve. The Csipak wetlands, the Tanaszi wetlands, the turf mine of Atokháza, the Kelebia grazing lands and the Zákányi basin - which is situated on the areas of more settlements - could all be "wondermeadows". If the value of the protected plant species to be changed into Hungarian Forints, the sum would be really high. Because of these high total sums, categorizing Rúzsa-Öregcsorvai meadow, Bácsborista meadow (which lies on the county border) and Rúzsa Baromjárás, Ottömös Baromjárás as "wondermeadows" is a tough decision. There is not only one explanation for the mass-survival of these unique plants on these lawns. The most important factor is about the area, that it should not be overcanalized. On the dried out meadows the yellowing grass and overgrown weeds are signs that show that the authorities overdid their tasks. The unadviced intervention will not only damage the protected plant communities, but the value of the lawn will also decrease significantly. It would be really favorable if spring wild waters (or at least some parts of them) were retained by lockage.
