Varga András: Egy völgy az Andokban
Summary Bolivia, Cochabamba valley with its branches played an important agricultural role as early as the pre- Inca period because of its favourable climatic conditions. Its geological forming was decisively influenced by the brooks and rivers of the Andok. Its indigenous plants - among them a great number of succulents - have accommodated to the shortage of natural rainfall. Water could be provided even in the drought period through irrigation canals that came from the sidevalleys. Cultivation became even more important under Inca supremacy. The goods produced by the peoples that had superior agriculture were stored in huge storehouses whose traces still can be seen. Incarray was the administrational centre and one of the cultic centres of the valley. This building group, that is still significant even in its ruins, played an important role concerning the direction of the valley after the Spanish conquest too.
