HAJDÚ Béla - UJSZÁSZI Róbert: Ebvédjegyek, ebbárcák a mai Csongrád megyében

ROBERT UJSZASZI-BELA HAJDU DOG TAGS IN THE AREA OF CSONGRÁD COUNTY Ujszaszi Robert and Hajdu Beta's aim was to categorize the artefacts regarding the history of dog tags which dates back to the mid 19th century. The earliest evidence of dog tags rules can be found in the time of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. The „dog tax" was meant to make dog owners be more responsible for their dogs due the rising number of stray dogs and cases of rabies. On paying the dog fee usually a small dog-licence badge was issued and hanged from the dog-collar in a necklace-like fashion. Microchip would be its modern day equivalent. In this study we tried to present our findings in a catalogue based primarily on the collections of Móra Ferenc Museum and on other public and private collections. The catalogue presents the different variations of dog badges that were used in the City of Szeged, in the historical county of Csongrád as well as in the present-day county of Csongrád and in its related territories. (Csanad, Arad and Torontál as independent historical counties and as one so-far united county after the Treaty of Trianon). It was not our intention with this study to publish new documents in relation with the topic, this goal is yet to be accomplished by further investigations, but to create a piece of work that sheds more light on the aspects of numismatic/artefact history of dog tag. 82
