MÚZEUM ÉS GYŰJTEMÉNYEK - ZOMBORI István: A Móra Ferenc Múzeum '56-os gyűjteménye

COLLECTION COMMEMORATING THE 1956 REVOLUTION IN THE MÓRA FERENC MUSEUM The History Department of the Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged owns a remarkable collection presenting the events of the 1956 Hungarian revolution in Szeged, displaying contemporary works of art and photographs, together with other documents. In a unique manner, however, the museum in Szeged started collecting the documents of the revolutionary events already concurrently in October-November 1956. This activity was fostered by the fact, that colleagues of the museum themselves took part in the events and considered it important to collect and keep the objects of the historic events. Among the most significant objects is a national flag which covered the body of a martyr of the revolution and a Kossuth coat of arms depicting the portrait of Stalin, as well as a wooden Kossuth coat of arms used by the revolutionists. A collection of 55-60 photographs presenting the events of the revolution is also of great value.
