GYÖRGY BALÁZS THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORKING CLASS IN CSONGRÁD DURING THE DUALISTIC ERA Present paper analyses the social history of working class in the town of Csongrád during the dualistic era, discussing the period in Hungarian history, when the trade-union movement of workers (industrial and agricultural workers) started and the organizational frames were formulated. The introductory part of the first chapter describes the development of working class and provides its numerical data. Then the author presents the formulating local organizations of this social stratum, together with the developing processes of workers' parties of the period. In the second chapter the author studies further endeavours of the workers' movement in Hungary including the position and movement of the working class in Csongrád at the turn of the century. In the third chapter the author outlines the domestic crisis of 1905-1906 bringing about confusion in the public opinion. The chapter presents the influence of this situation in the town of Csongrád. The fourth chapter discusses the life and struggles of the workers' organizations in the years before the First World War, as well as the decline of the workers' movement in Csongrád, also its further struggles to protect the already gained rights.
