ÁDÁM NAGY PAYING THE LAST HONOURS TO FERENC MÓRA Ferenc Móra born in Kiskunfélegyháza was bound to Szeged by his 32 years of creative work both as a writer and as a museologist. At his death, on 8 th February 1934 the two cities were competing for his mortal remains. As a matter of course the city council took on all the costs, including that of an honorary grave. The burial service was executed with great sympathy and with dignity. However, the sorrowful days of reverence were to be followed by ordinary weekdays. The financial inspector of the city found too high the sum total of the invoice of the undertaker. Finally, the undertaker accepted the sum reduced by 16 %. A press-monitoring agency from Budapest had collected 200 necrologies published in different papers, which were offered for sale. The city bought them, nonetheless, the price of the collection was paid after long correspondence delayed for several months. Articles appeared also about the fact, that another great creator of the city, artist Sándor Nyilasy, had been buried with less honour than Móra. The ends of the legs were decorated with golden fringes, then they were fixed to the wreath with a bow. The colours of the ribbons may symbolise the colours of the nation, the city or mourning, although in our collection we
