[4.] 7 th January, 1936. Dear Orowan, I have just received your letter of January 2 nd . Owing to the Xmas vacation I have heard nothing during the last fortnight about the progress of your case. I know that it was discussed on the 13 th December in London, and expected that the decision had been officially communicated to you. My colleagues have not yet returned from their vacations but I might meet Bragg in private within a few days, and will hear whether he knows anything about your affair. I would certainly advise you to take no further steps to obtain the Russian visa during the next eight or ten days, within which time you will hear from me again. I might mention that the recent discussion of your case has not taken place before the Academic Assistance Council, but has been before the Professional
