GÉZA FORGÓ THE LIFE OF A TALENTED DOCTOR, DR. VILMOS URAY FROM URA Vilmos Uray was born in the village of Ibrány in 1882. After pursuing studies in Budapest and abroad he worked in the city of Nyíregyháza and Budapest. He directed the Saint Stephen County Hospital in the town of Makó as a head physician from 1913 to 1944. After 6 years imprisonment as prisoner of war he started his actual work in autumn 1920. Vilmos Uray developed the hospital in Makó to be a modern institute. He invited specialists, founded new departments, enlarged the building and the site of the hospital. Although he was not politically active, he often took a stand for improving health care. On 19 October 1945 he was brought to trial at the people's tribunal accused of crime against the state and the people. In the absence of evidence he was acquit on the charge on 31 May 1946. In spite of his innocence he was forced to leave his workplace. After this he lived on his pension and on the income of his private surgery until he died on 16 March 1952.
