EVA BAGI KATKÓ THE SCHOOL-TEACHERS OF PUSZTASZER After the rampages of the Turks, the 25,000 acres of the Pusztaszer region became completely deserted and broke into four sections, each of them to follow their separate fates. The present essay discusses the history of the schools on the almost 8,000 Hungarian acres which made up the northerly region. Pusztaszer (as a property of Kecskemét) began to be populated from the first third of the 19 th century. The better quality of life of the plains attracted multiple children families who increased the already large number of illiterates in the absence of schools,. The first local public primary school began to operate in 1880 with Ferenc Tájcsik, teacher, in charge, who not only looked after the teaching of the children, but also carried on work related to general education of the population of Pusztaszer which was dominated by farms at the time. The growth of the population made necessary the construction of two schools in 1913 in Árpád and Szárnyékhalom. A 3-4 person teaching staff served the population of the plains. In 1934, Pusztaszer became a village and the caring work of János Jaksa, teacher, gave a new boost to the development of education. In 1939, another school was built in Munkástelep while the newest modern school, which is the only operation school today, was built in 1967. It employs teachers who received training in a teaching college, and operates by the appropriate number of teaching hours according to the needs of the present day.
