KATKÛNÉ ÉVA BAGI THE MILITIA OF SZEGED (FORMED IN 1806) AS SEEN THROUGH THEIR UNIFORMS AND UNIT FLAGS Through the historical periods, military organizations have paid a great deal of attention to the design of their uniforms. The uniform and the unit flag distinguished each military unit and gave it a special character. This was especially true for the time when the development of military technology had not yet come to require the wearing of camouflage. The marching of the soldiers in distinctive and colourful uniforms sparked an overpowering sense of adventure in thousands of young boys. With special focus on the uniforms and flags, this study offers a brief overview of the militia which formed in the beginning of the last century. This essay also attempts to portray the particular social background and the moralistic demand which were responsible for the production of these items.
