As to an author of national fame, on the 25th anniversary of his activity as a writer, on 28 December 1927 the town council awarded Ferenc Móra the honorary citizenship. This marks the birth of the cult of the author in his birthplace. Present paper outlines how the cult evolved, presenting its stages in a chronological order. In Kiskunfélegyháza, Ferenc Móra is not only a literary figure to be remembered, but also an integrated part of town history. Time has proved that the name and heritage of the famous "son" may have a strong impact on the town community. In the case of Ferenc Móra, we can see how the safeguarding of local heritage enhances the formation of local community: this cult could not flourish without the enthusiastic activity of patriots and local historians. They are always ready to foster the cultivation of Móra-traditions, also by renewing the old forms of public commemoration. 326
