ENIGMATIC CIRCULAR DITCHES. SOME DATA ON THE SETTLEMENT SYSTEM OF THE AVARIAN AGE

(Summary)

Due to the large scale excavations of the recent decades, a large number of archaeological feature types were excavated that have not been properly studied before, because of their poor find material. In addition, earlier it was difficult to evaluate them because of the limited extension of excavation surfaces. Although ditches are discovered at almost all of the settlement excavations, characteristically we meet them in large quantities and various forms at dwelling places of peoples dealing mainly with animal husbandry. It is evident without special studies, from the first glance, that the number and role of the ditches is closely connected with the way of farming.
