Domokos Tamás szerk.: Pro Natura. A Dél-Tiszántúl természeti értékei (Békéscsaba, Munkácsy Mihály Múzeum, 1999)

GEOLOGY The bore log of Békéscsaba and its surrounding shows the structure of the upper layer of the crust of our planet (Hegedűs F. 1979). The bore logs of different depth contain the material corresponding to different layers. On the left-hand side depth scale and geological time scale (Pál Molnár E. 1993) helps the identification of different layers. During the approximately 23 million years of Neogene era a 3.5 km thich sediment layer was deposited. Compared to the former geological ages it is a very significant contribution, as the Paleozoic Precambrian bottom of the basin at Békéscsaba is situated at a depth of about 5.5 km, as it is shown on the depth map of the Békéscsaba region. In this region the crust of the Earth is very thin, only 22-27 km wide.
