Egy sokoldalú ember A Versatile Man. On Pál Lipták, the Painter, the Library Director, the Publisher and Art Collector (Békéscsaba, 14th April, 1922 - Békéscsaba, 21st February, 2007)- Gabriella Gyarmati - Resume Pál Lipták is a painter, a library director, a publisher and an art collector. The order can be changed arbitrarily, since no matter what he set about, had been accomplished with a high degree of fastidiousness and producing interesting results. Researching his diverse and high-quality operation, his appreciator wrote of him: “The secret lies in his talent and his consistent and high level self-education”. We might as well call Pál Lipták a polymath if that term would not have worn out so due to the unnecessary and too frequent use in recent times. So, in my writing, I present the activity of Pál Lipták, the versatile man who brilliantly profited by his talent in all fields chosen by him, focusing attention, to the same extent, on his activities of fine arts and that of a librarian. The sometimes rough or analytic investigation of Lipták, the painter’s three creative phases (setting in front of him the task of capturing lowland atmosphere; figurative painting of expressive nature; the non-figurative era of expressive character) provides an opportunity to draw the more important outlines of the oeuvre unfortunately scattered after the death of artist. The cornerstones of his operation as librarian, library director are provided by the elaboration of the open-shelf system of lending books and the establishment of children's library and music library. He also laboured steadily on establishing the municipal libraries in Békés county. His activities as publisher, book designer and art collector have, as above, also deployed interesting results, sometimes even curiosities.
