Turcsányi Resume In autumn of 1997, a Sarmatian grave section came to light during the extension of the borosgyáni sandpit operating in the southern part of the outskirts of Békés, westward from the public road of Békéscsaba. During the rescue excavation between 11 May and 5 June 1998 after reporting the finding, we opened up Sarmatian and Arpadian age objects, among others four Sarmatian graves. Within the first and the second graves of the cemetery section, there were findings. The third grave was without furniture. While, the fourth grave was looted not much after the burial. The iron fibula of bad toughness in the first grave can be less examined. The jewel furniture of the second grave - silver earring pair, bronze torques, necklace threaded from cornelian and amber beads, bronze bracelet pair - traces the cemetery section back to 3 and 4 centuries based on Mihály Párduc 's work quoted. We found a deviation of small degree from the regular lying-position in case of the corpse of the second grave, which however can be said already an abnormality according to Valéria Kulcsár' s work quoted: its left forearm rested upon the left shoulder flexed in elbow and not beside the trunk longitudinally. The grave was dug upon a previously filled up pit, consequently the lower part of the skeleton sunk in considerably. Based on our observations we think that a small part of formerly described "sitting" funerals can be originated in this way. S. Turcsányi Ildikó Jantyik Mátyás Múzeum H-5630 Békés, Széchenyi tér 4.
