Bevezetés (Szakáll Sándor & Weiszburg Tamás)

Topographia Mineralogica Hungáriáé Vol. II. 9-16 Miskolc, 1994 THIS VOLUME IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF EMIL SCHERF (1889-1967) GEOLOGIST, THE RESTLESS RESEARCHER OF THE TELKIBÁNYA ORE DEPOSIT The minerals of Telkibánya (Preface of the editors) Sándor Szakáll & Tamás G. Weiszburg Telkibánya is famous for its mining history. The gold and siTverbearfng veins arcrand Telkibánya, the used to be Free Royal Mining Town, were operated from the 13th-14fir centuries till the end of the last century. The most important ore veins are to be found NE from the village (Gyepű Hill, Kánya Hill, Fehér Hill; Fig. 1,2). The first report on the minerals of the area is known from the 18th century. In the first half of this century Z. Schréter, A. Liffa and E. Scherf, in the 50-ies and 60-ies E. Scherf and V. Széky-Fux contributed the most to our knowledge about the petrology, ore geology and mineralogy of the region. V. Széky-Fux in her book, published in 1970, gave a detailed summary of these research activities. Researchers of many scientific institutes took part in the preparation of the present volume. The result is a remarkable amount of new information on the genesis and geochemistry of the parageneses. Apart from the 32 minerals known earlier from the area, this volume summarizes the description of 55, for the region new, species (Table I). The parageneses of the veins, based on the new results are shown on Table II. Mineralogists and geologists of the following institutions contributed to the present volume: Eötvös L. University, Budapest; Kossuth L. University, Debrecen; University of Miskolc; Hungarian Geological Survey, Budapest; Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest; Herman O. Museum, Miskolc.
