During its twelve years long existence, the Collections University could claim countless positive changes, even if there was still much to be done. One of the shortcomings was that the overall budget of the natural history collections and museum departments hardly increased and that the status of the natural history collections in provincial museums did not improve significantly. Even so, the museum research policy and projects embodied by the Collections University are most instructive: we should by all means acknowledge reality, but should never give up our hopes and dreams. Klebelsberg's vision, many elements of which remained unaccomplished (including his plans for the Collections University) has since then been realised in part. Tibor Kecskeméti 491
