varied. The works of the joiners painting churches and furniture, the guild carafes and church vessels of professional master potters, and some extremely beautiful bowls with special ornamentation belong to the outstanding relics of old style folk art. The monuments of folk architecture found in market towns and small towns can be contrasted with the more archaic forms of the stone and wooden buildings, and the mud and adobe houses of the Great Plain. The brilliant 'Matyó' embroideries, the figurai jugs and bottles of Mezőcsát potters, the exquisite sheepskin waistcoats and long fur coats of the furriers from South Borsod which are embroidered with silk and the richly decorated felt cloaks of the tailors from Miskolc and Eger are the outstanding relics of the new style conscious folk art of peasants. The book pays tribute to beautiful objects, not only to those which are beautiful due to their ornamentation and professional virtuosity but also to those in which the maker was able to create the harmony of material, form and function in the simplest way.
