Tartalom

the Slovak Lutheran nobility; his grandfather, Daniel Mazarius died during the persecution of protestants as a galley slave. Stephanus Lyci, nephew of Christoph Mazary Jr. became the pastor of Cekeháza (near Fancsal, today: part of Abaújszántó) in 1737. A particular kind of Lutheran administration in the form of a deanery was created in the early decades of the 18th century, encompassing the small region consisting of the southern part of Abaúj (Abov) county, the northern part of Borsod county and the border area of Zemplén (Zemplin) county, and only including a few small churches (Arnót, Fancsal, Cekeháza); which Johannes Clementis became its dean in 1743. Lutheran preacher Jan dementis of Fancsal, served the church not only with his work as a pastor and dean, but also through his diary entries, which can be considered as an outstanding source for ecclesiastical history. His diary, in addition to being a documentation of a pastor’s life full of hardship and struggle, is the most faithful proof of Lutheran religious practice from its era. Church administration and the life of faith created at the edges of Borsod-Abaúj- Zemplén (Borsod-Abov-Zemplin) counties would be a lot poorer without the spiritual and intellectual contributions of Johannes Clementis over more than four decades.
