The architectural heritage monument is archaeologically investigated since the 1930’s. The first comprehensive scientific research was completed in the 1960’s by Czeglédy Ilona. At the same time the architectural renovation was carried out by Ferenczy Károly. These early results determined the research and influenced the general knowledge of the castle for nearly 30 years. At the beginning of the 2000’s some conservation and investment projects opened the way for a new archaeological research at the castle and its surroundings. This paper summarises the history of the castle and presents the most important results of the recent archaeological excavations of the 2002—2016 period.
