WAR CRIMINAL OR VICTIM?

The subject of the research is to investigate the politically determined criminal procedures in Miskolc, between 1945 and 1949. This paper focuses on the history and the characteristics of the People’s Court trials in Miskolc. Other matters like police measure sanctions (police custody, arrest, internment) and deportation or court martial by the soviet military are also investigated. A lot of court trials were officially non-political, but in fact many started and ended up with pure political targets. The majority of the procedures in Miskolc were carried out by the city People’s Court, but some trials were dedicated to the Budapest or even more to the Debrecen People’s Court. This paper is not dedicated to comment the righteous or wrongful sentences of the People’s Court, even though there are some obvious doubts. Limited to the historical facts and data, the author’s goal is simply to present the political criminal procedures of the 1945—1949 period, to emphasize their intensity and to summarize the final results.
