MISKOLC ANNO PAINTED AND GRAPHICAL MEMORIES OF THE TOWN PASSING AWAY Keywords: cityscape painting, urban history, collection history In the collections of the Herman Ottó Museum a significant number of artworks are depicting the cityscape and details of Miskolc in the inter-war period. The common topic of cityscape can be explained by the historical facts of that era. Due to modernisation, this period caused radical changes of the townscape in Miskolc. The contemporary artists realized the importance of the changes, and many of the local painters dehberately captured the archaic details to document the features passing away. Their efforts accorded to the similar goals of the city museum, co-operating for the same commemorative purposes. The dominance of the cityscape painting was influenced by other factors (like the enhancement of cultural heritage conservation, or the prosperity of tourism) as well. This paper walks around Miskolc by districts, with the help of artworks, paintings and graphics. The purpose of this wide-range and itemised data publication is to establish a useful assistance for the new urban history exhibition of the Herman Ottó Museum.
