Történettudomány - Majzik Dávid: A MOKAN-Komité szerepe a kommunista hatalomváltás előkészítésében Miskolcon

A MOKAN-Komité szerepe a kommunista hatalomváltás előkészítésében Miskolcon 469 THE MOKAN-COMMITTEE’S ROLE IN THE PREPARATION OF COMMUNIST TAKEOVER IN MISKOLC Keywords: World War II, Hungarian resistance, Malenkij Robot, public administration of Miskolc This paper provides analysis of the MOKAN-Committee, the antifascist resistance group of Miskolc between 1944 and 1945. The group was formed by Hungarian communists in order to help the Soviet army and free the city from the German army. The members explicated propaganda against the devastation of the war, ferocity of the Arrow Cross Party and the occupying German army. The MOKAN-Committee got the right from Soviet military command to act as a police force, which was a unique act on behalf of the Soviet Army in Hungary at that time. The communist members of the MOKAN-Committee took part in the rebuilding of the city and the newly emerging political life as well. They used their police force to help the Red Army with the deportation of citizens to the Soviet Union where they were subjected to forced labour. The MOKAN police force was also used to strengthen the communist party’s power in political life and the civil service of Miskolc. In my paper I am going to reconstruct the resistance through the reminiscences of its former members. I would like to highlight how the MOKAN-Committee served as a pre-communist party and after World War II they sought dominance in power for the newly founded communist party. I am also going to analyse the myth-making process generated by exmembers of the committee after the post-war era, when they tried to deny the MOKAN’s role in the deportations to the Soviet Union, highlighting their merits during the expulsion of the German Army instead.
