TRACKING A LEGEND: THE FRADI BEATER, GOALPOST-BREAKER PTK Keywords: Pereces, mining settlement, sport Pereces, that has been part of Miskolc so far, was setded as a miners’ settlement. The vivid, self-organised cultural and sport life, that is a character of workers’ colonies in general, produced nation-wide events. Events connected to theatre, music and to sporting activities were significant. Sport life in Pereces involves longer or shorter stories of famous teams, several sports and sport sections. The general sport association founded in 1923 was called Perecesbányatelepi Testgyakorlók Köre (PTK). The major moment of the team and PTK was the season of 1946—47, when the football team entered for the national league (NBI) after the world war. Although they failed out of the first league after a year, they played legendary matches, serious winner ones, that show the extraordinary performance. If we examine the meanings related to the team and social identity, it is an interesting fact that the group identity could derive from local and work base due to the miners’ sorrounding. This phenomenon appeared some years before the professional-, national-, crowd sport movement forced by the state, which resulted changes in sports, and showed the workers’ class including miners in a different perspective. Knowing the antecedents, details, after-life and effects of the legendary match, we can tell that there are different versions of the widely known story. The importance and legend of the match played 20 April, 1947 can be recognised from the very detailed versions circulating among people. [Translated by Edina Mató] Darázs, Richárd
