WITTING, Johann Baptist 1918 Der niederösterreichische landständische Adel S-Z. Nürnberg THE 20TH CENTURY HISTORY OF THE HUNGARIAN BRANCH OF THE KISSERÉNYI GRÓF SERÉNYI FAMILY The Serényi family is one of Hungary's famous aristocratic families. Their letter patent of nobility originates from 1518. First in 1596, then in 1623, they acquired the Hungarian baronage, and in 1638 the Czech one. Later, in 1656, they acquired the title of a count. The name of the family has gone down in the history of Hungarian and Czech-Moravian public life. According to the Hungarian family historians, the Serényi family has its roots in the Csanád County. Its name was originally used and written as "Serjény ", which was given by the village Kisserje in the Csanád County. Érsekújvár). In the period between the 16th and 20th centuries they acquired estates in a number of historical Hungarian counties. (Borsod, Abaúj, Zemplén, Gömör, Nógrád, Spis (hung. Szepes), Trencín (hung. Trencsén), Bratislava (hung. Pozsony), Pest, etc.) The genealogical table of the Serényi family can be ascribed to the scrivener and royal vice-treasurer Ferenc, who was ennobled by King Lajos II in 1518, respectively strengthened in his nobility, and he had been granted the coat of arms. Through him, his children Francis, János, Miklós, István, Katalin and Ilona also received the same grace. We know several branches of the Serényi family from the 16th century. One of them lived in the area of Transylvania, another in the Hungarian area. A next branch lived in the area of Moravia, which bordered on the historical Hungary. The branches in Hungary and Transylvania became extinct in the storms of history, and in the 17th century the Moravian branch began to flourish. One branch of the Moravian branch had always been more oriented towards Hungary, but in 1809 this 323
